The f-stop value represents the aperture size of the lens. A larger aperture value means a larger aperture. The aperture value is measured in "f/", and the smaller the f/ value, the larger the aperture (eg, f/1.4 has a larger aperture than f/2.8).

Generally speaking, lenses with f/2.8 or less are called "large apertures".

A lens with a large aperture means a shallow depth of field (ie, the subject is sharp but the background is blurred), making it ideal for portraits that bulge out the subject.

At the same time, a larger aperture means more light enters the lens at the same time, so you can also shoot with a faster shutter in low light, which helps prevent photos from blurring due to camera shake.

OLYMPUS AF-1 (f/2.8) (stock)
Canon Autoboy 2 (f/2.8) (stock)
